Ebola in Africa and What You Should Know When Travelling This Festive Season

Ebola in Africa and What You Should Know When Travelling This Festive Season
As you plan your festive season holiday within Africa, it is important to stay informed about Ebola and the health risks in your destination. Before travelling, check official health advisories and confirm whether there are any outbreak warnings affecting the areas you intend to visit.

During your trip, avoid touching bats, monkeys and other wild animals, handling bushmeat, or visiting wildlife markets where live animals are sold. At tourist centres, avoid contact with anyone who appears seriously ill or has unexplained symptoms. For tours and excursions, follow local health guidance, especially when visiting rural communities or wildlife attractions.

Ebola can spread through direct contact with the blood or other bodily fluids of an infected person or animal. If you develop symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, vomiting or diarrhoea after possible exposure, seek urgent medical advice and tell health workers about your travel history. Do not continue your trip without medical guidance.

You can still enjoy your African holiday, but take health advisories seriously, practise good hand hygiene and avoid activities that expose you to potentially infected animals or bodily fluids.
